Flower Alternatives

I love flowers!! I think a wedding is not a wedding without flowers. My love of flowers is the reason I studied floral design and took classes to learn how to create beautiful designs myself. However, there many brides that hate flowers for one reason or the other. Either they are allergic or it’s just not their thing. So I thought of some alternatives for those anti flower brides out there.

Ostrich feather centerpiece with lighting http://www.wholesaleeventsolutions.com/

White branches with hanging flowers or candles http://www.spitzandpeck.com/

Votive candles with a floating candles and flowers as the main center piece http://www.projectwedding.com/

Candles in different heights and different size containers with some flower petals to add color to the guest tables. http://www.projectweddings.com/

As much as I love flowers, I do appreciate a change of pace. Having a candle light reception is elegant and so romantic. The glow from the candle light adds a warm glow to your reception. So for all the Anti Flower Brides out there, please know that all is not lost. Your wedding will still be fabulous even without flowers!!

Oscar Inspired Hair

Last night was the biggest night in Hollywood. The 81st Annual Academy Awards!! My favorite part, The Red Carpet!! I love the dresses but this year I was drawn to the hairstyles. For all you brides out there trying to decide on a wedding day hairstyle, here is some inspiration straight from the red carpet.

Penelope Cruz chose a sleek bun with bangs. Oh so elegant!!

Taraji P. Henson ‘s layered bob was with sweeping bangs had just enough bounce to add some fab!!
Marissa Tomei looked absolutely stunning with her hair styled in a purposely messy side bun with bangs and that graced her face.

The beautiful Angelina Jolie wore her long brown main pulled back with soft curls. The perfect combination of an up and down do.

Kate Winslet looked stunning from head to toe. Her hairdo is a Hollywood glam classic.

Viola Davis’s bob was oh so fab! The bounce and body of the curls adds a twist to the classic cut.

Sarah Jessica Parker! All I can say is I Love It!!

Pink Inspirations

PINK! You either hate it or you love it, is what I’ve learned as a wedding planner. I’ve met brides that want pink everywhere and some brides that despise the color pink. To unite the pink haters and lovers, here are some pink inspiration boards that I’m sure we all can agree are a fabulous use of the color pink.

White, Black and Hot Pink! The pop of pink adds a spin to the classic black and white color palette. It's a fun and upbeat choice for decor. Aren't those shoes to die for?!!

(photo credits: from left to right - 1:brides.com, 2,4,5:Project Weddings, 3: Wedding Wire)

Blush and Mauve! This color combo is a romantic and soft approach to using pink. This is a great palette for those that are scared of having too much pink.

All Pink!! Using one color of choice in the right way can be elegant and whimiscal. By using different shades of pink, you can easily add texture and depth to a mono chromatic color palette.

Fuchsia and Navy Blue!! This is my new favorite!! The contrast of the two colors is tres chic and a modern spin on two classic colors. Adding another color like purple, red or another shade of pink brings a fabulous dimension!!

Accomodating Children at Your Wedding

I came across this picture of me and I had to blog about it!! I was about 4 or 5 years old and this was my first wedding. I was the flower girl as you can see and I was the worse flower girl in the history of weddings!! I cried all the way down the aisle, I didn’t want to take any pictures and any pictures I did take, I had that face on. It was a running family joke for years and if anyone from my family sees the picture they will happily repeat the joke for you!! It’s ironic to me that this was my reaction to a wedding and now I’m a wedding planner!! Go figure! I would like to mention that the couple is still happily married.

Seeing this picture made me think of all the children that are either in weddings or invited to weddings. Let’s face it, weddings are generally for adults but if you having children attend your wedding then you should accommodate them as well. Providing a children’s tables filled with activities will keep them entertained and also give their parents a chance to cut a rug. You can provide a goody bag of coloring books, crayons, toys and of course something sweet! If you are having a lot of children, you may even consider hiring a “sitter” of some sort. Someone to monitor the children, play games with them or maybe keep them entertain in another room. I only make this suggestion if you are having enough children to full a table. If there will be one or two children, then a goody bag will do the trick. Whatever you decide, just don’t forget about the little ones!! They are your guest too!!

This little lady danced the day away!! She was the cutest little thing!!

Groom’s Fashion – It’s His Day Too!!

I always try my best not to exclude the groom when I’m working with my clients but I’ve neglected to do so on with my blog. Shame on me!! It’s his big day too so let’s make sure he looks his best.

Wedding attire is a major part of the wedding. Your attire of choice should go with the tone of the wedding. I have noticed that this is a detailed that is easily overlooked. For the groom and the groomsmen, here are some helpful tips on choosing the right attire.

Informal: Business suit, white shirt and a tie

Semi-Formal Daytime: Formal suit, white shirt, vest, tie or bow tie

Formal Daytime: Cutaway or stroller jacket, waistcoat, stripped trousers, white wing collared shirt, striped tie, studs and cufflinks

Formal Evening: Black dinner jacket, matching trousers, waistcoat, white tuxedo shirt, cufflinks, vest, cummerbund or vest

Very Formal Day Time: Cutaway coat, wing-collard shirt, ascot. Striped trousers or vest

Very Formal Evening: Black tailcoat, matching striped trousers, white wing collared shirt, waistcoat, patent leather shoes, studs and cufflinks, gloves

I know some of these details may be somewhat old fashion for some of you but take the pointers given, update the look and make it your own!!

Rich Bride, Poor Bride

I’ve been feeling under the weather these last couple of days so I’ve been spending a lot of time in bed with my laptop. This down time gave me an opportunity to catch up on some of my favorite wedding shows I love to watch and one episode in particular stuck out.

(photo courtesy of WeTv, click on photo to view Wetv Website and this episode's info)

Are you familiar with the show “Rich Bride Poor Bride” that comes on WeTV? Well the premise off the show is to show how couples plan their wedding on different budgets, usually small to average. On this episode, the couple Kevin and Lindsay were on a tight budget of $15,000. Lindsay was by far the cheapest bride I’ve ever seen but she had her reasons. However, her cheap ways almost cost her great memories of her wedding. If you are a budget bride, this is the episode for you!! It will help you put some things in prospective. Even the bride realized she made some mistakes and should have paid for certain services. In this economy, we are all trying to save but before you do, seek professional advice on where to skimp and where to spend. You do not want to look back and regret your wedding or be unhappy on your wedding day.

Take Your Monogram Every Where!

This is a great feature I found on http://www.weddingstand.com/. This is a simple way to personalize your wedding. You can create your own monogram. There are over 20 designs and colors to choose from so you can make it your own. Once you have customized the monogram, they will send it to you as a high resolution jpg file on a CD. You can apply this to your invitations, favors, place cards and anything you would like to personalize. If you are a DIY, this is perfect for you. This adds a professional design to all of your DIY projects.
